Lucifer spoke thus. Pride took him from heaven, though he sat at God's right hand.' Her voice grew faint, the hint of a whisper. 'In the end pride is the only evil, the root of all sins.'' Pride is all I have.

About This Quote

The quote, "Pride is all I have", is a part of the poem by William Shakespeare, “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”. The poem was written in 1603 and has been included in the famous collection of Shakespeare's works since 1623. The poem is about the character Hamlet, who is constantly plagued by self-doubt; he doubts his abilities as a prince and he doubts whether or not the ghost that appears to him is truly who it claims to be. Throughout the play, Hamlet has many conversations with his father’s spirit. In this quote, the character Cladius says to Hamlet, “the greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” Cladius helps Hamlet understand that pride is what keeps people down.

Pride makes people think they are better than others because they have done something great, but really they are just being proud because they are successful. Therefore, through all of his struggles with doubt and depression , Hamlet should stay confident in himself and keep getting back up every time he falls.
