Memorizing someone else’s explanation of the truth isn’t the same as seeing the truth for yourself. It is what it is–the memorization of second-hand knowledge. It is not your experience. It is not your knowledge. And no matter how much material is learned by rote, and no matter how eloquently we can speak about the memorized information, we’re clinging to a description of something that’s not ours. What’s more, the description is never the item itself. By holding onto our impression of certain descriptions, we frequently are unable to see the real thing when it’s right before our eyes. We are conditioned by memorizing and believing concepts–the truth of which we’ve never genuinely seen for ourselves. H.E. Davey
About This Quote

The truth is that we shouldn’t chase the ideal of our minds and instead should focus on the real, which is what it is. We shouldn’t try to make our minds conform to the ideal; we should focus on what it is and simply accept it as it is. This is most commonly seen in the field of education. For example, if a teacher tells you that "A" means "B," and "B" means "C," and "C" means "D," then we follow their directions and end up with "D." While we may know that we made a mistake, we don't question whether or not it's true because we're simply following instructions.

If you want to learn something very well, you're going to have to memorize it because there's no way that you can remember everything that you need to know. Even when you learn very well, there are still things that you won't be able to memorize. On the other hand, if you actually try to memorize every single detail in your life, then you'll never actually get through everything because there's so much information in life.

It's important to realize that there are some things that are true even when you don't understand them.
