The distance between your knowledge of truth and your obedience is called lack of integrity. And the amount of negative behavior--or lack of integrity--a person exhibits is directly proportional to their amount of pain." - Tara Leigh's therapist (p.118)

About This Quote

The quote for this week is a continuation of a series of quotes that look at the therapeutic process. In this one, the therapist says that lack of integrity is a measure of how much pain a person is in. Lack of integrity, the therapist says, is a good thing. It doesn’t mean doing bad things.

Rather, it means knowing what you should be doing and not doing it. For example, many who know they should smoke but don’t smoke often say they don’t want to smoke or don’t want to smoke because they think it will make them gain weight. The idea of lack of integrity applies to situations like these and many others where we know we should be doing something and we aren’t.

We know we should be eating better and exercising more yet we continue to eat fast food and stay sedentary.
