I was winning awards, getting raises, lecturing college classes, appearing on TV shows, and judging journalism contests. And then I wrote some stories that made me realize how sadly misplaced my bliss had been. The reason I'd enjoyed such smooth sailing for so long hadn't been, as I'd assumed, because I was careful and diligent and good at my job.. The truth was that, in all those years, I hadn't written anything important enough to suppress. . Gary Webb
About This Quote

The truth is that, in all those years, I hadn't written anything important enough to suppress. When I was younger I had been highly successful, getting awards and being recognized for my work. Then I started writing some articles that were critical of the government and the military. That’s when things got out of hand and my world began to fall apart.

The government made a big deal about me and the military tried to find a way to take me down. They even went so far as to fire me from my position at a newspaper. Now I felt like an outcast who everyone thought was not worthy of what they had given to me in the past.
