The secret to happiness is complaining very little.

About This Quote

If you want to be happy, don’t complain about the things that make you unhappy. It is a very easy and effective way to feel down and depressed. For most of us, complaining about the things we lack is the most unhappy thing we do. When we start complaining about how bad things are, we create a vicious circle.

We start out with our negative thoughts and emotions, and then they feed on themselves as we go on with our complaining. We start thinking about what we don’t have, and then we begin to worry about having those things. We think about all the ways in which those things could go wrong, and then we begin to worry even more about those things going wrong.

Pretty soon, we’re consumed by our negative thoughts and emotions and thinking only of what’s wrong with us and how bad everything is. The unhappy cycle continues until it doesn’t matter what you do or think anymore because you’re so wrapped up in your own negativity that you can’t see any good coming from what happens around you.
