The quote says that nothing is lost, because everything goes away in the end, but it still stays with us. The way I see things, this is true for people and pets. There are some things that are too valuable for us to lose. We can't have them, because then they wouldn't be ours anymore.

If something precious were to leave us, then we would feel just awful because we thought that it was ours. It's only natural to love something so much that you want it back. We all love our pets so much that we would do anything for them if they were to leave us.
