Sometimes you want to remember. And sometimes you need to forget.

About This Quote

Sometimes you want to remember and sometimes you need to forget. Here is an example of remembering. Let’s say that you have a friend who is not being the best friend. Maybe, she has been talking badly about you, ignoring your calls or just being generally rude to you lately.

You are feeling down because of her behavior and then, one day she calls you up and tells you that she is sorry for acting so poorly towards you. She says that she is not being the best friend anymore. However, this apology does not change the fact that your relationship with her has been damaged by her actions.

You are still not close to her. If this was a situation where she apologized regularly, regularly told you how much she missed seeing your face every day, maybe even called you once in a while, then she would be considered a good friend for apologizing regularly. Then, there is the other type of memory where people feel they need to forget because they are unhappy with their current situation or because they feel they have done something wrong or are embarrassed by their past actions.

Maybe someone who used to be your best friend suddenly thinks less of you. She might stop talking to you all together because it hurts too much whenever she hears about what a horrible person you once were. The thing about these situations is that if people never forget, they never grow or improve as individuals or as people in general.
