In the early 1600s, a group of Christians in Amsterdam decided to cover the windows of their house with a large metal cross. The city reacted harshly and the Christian’s house was destroyed. History shows us that this event did not move any of the city’s officials to change their ways. In fact, it may have even increased their hatred for Christianity.

Nevertheless, these Christians refused to give up. They rebuilt their house and once again placed the cross in front of it. The city was unhappy with this and destroyed it again.

This time, however, they were not able to rebuild. The city officials finally relented and allowed the Christians to practice their religion in peace. When people cannot see your point of view, they are often tempted to try to make you stop believing in it.

One way or another they want to make you stop or lose your faith- an act that would make them feel better about themselves. When people are exposed to enough negative experiences, they are often willing to give up on things they once believed in because it is easier than facing the truth that you cannot change the world for the better by force alone.
