I have not known him long indeed, but I am much better acquainted with him than I am with any other creature in the world.

About This Quote

A few years ago, I received a letter from a man who was reading my book. He said that we seemed to have a lot in common and that he hoped to be able to talk to me more and learn more about me. I told him that I would love to hear more of what he had to say and so we arranged a time for me to visit him at his home. When I arrived at the house where he lived, I found myself in a beautiful garden full of beautiful flowers and beautiful trees. He met me at the door and led me through the garden where we sat down on some comfortable chairs and chatted for a long time about everything under the sun.

He told me about his family, his friends, his work and even about his health problems. Even though we had only just met, we were already great friends and I felt as if I knew him much better than any other creature in the world. In the course of our conversation, he mentioned that he had recently been introduced to someone who is most certainly going to mean a lot to him in the future. When he said this, it made me sad because I knew that this person would be someone who will never know how important they are or how much they mean to him – someone who will always be second best.

They will never know how much they mean to him because they do not matter. Love can change that person forever if it is given freely – if you give away your love freely without expecting anything in return then it will change you forever too.
