Sex and violence ... are the two great engines of the world.

James Carlos Blake
About This Quote

Sex and violence are the two great engines of the world. This quote, from playwright Samuel Beckett, was written in a collection of essays called "Theatre of the Absurd," which is a superb reference for any aspiring playwright. While it seems out of place here on this site, it does have relevance to how we use our imaginations. If we can imagine a world where sex and violence do not exist, then we make a new world. If we only imagine a world where sex and violence exist, then we create a world with no hope of changing it.
