The nature of power is such that it can never be understood.

About This Quote

The nature of power is such that it can never be understood. I’ve always been a fan of this quote. It’s a way of describing the fact that power is a mysterious thing. When studying the history of the world, we often find that those who have power have managed to use it for evil as well as good.

In fact, so much power is incredibly seductive and corrupting to the individual who holds it. The inherent corrupting nature of power can be summed up by this quote from Sun Tzu: “The enlightened ruler will not merely follow the proper path; he will make use of every expedient and craftiness to enlarge his own sphere of influence.”
