Publicity is the soul of stupidity, but we must not forget that we live in a stupid universe, so publicity is the engine of our world.

Carl William Brown
About This Quote

Publicity is the soul of stupidity. I am not sure what the author was trying to say here, but one thing he made clear is that publicity is not something constantly sought after or constantly needed. As I read this quote, I was reminded of some of the silliest aspects of fame. The obsession with publicity can make people do ridiculous things in order to get noticed.

For example, some people will go to any length to get on television. Some will even go as far as constantly wearing dumb clothes or wearing bizarre clothes that they think will make them famous. What they end up becoming famous for is ridiculous and embarrassing.
