This was his mind, a storehouse, a computer programmed to life, minute by minute, hour by hour, day and night.

Pearl S. Buck
About This Quote

The human mind is like a computer, with thoughts and memories stored in the filing cabinets. There are parts of the file cabinets that are categorized by different emotions, (joy, sadness, anger, etc.) and others that are categorized by different places (the beach, the yard, the living room), but what makes the computer work is the connection between those filing cabinets. The brain is a large network of neurons which control the individual muscles. When a neuron fires it sends a message to a specific muscle.

This message tells the muscle to do a certain thing, whether it is to move on its own or to actually make another neuron fire. It's all controlled from one neuron firing which is called a thought.
