Lord Rochester was an 18th century British poet and playwright, famous for his many love poems. It seems that he was quite defiant about people stealing horses. He put the whole stealing horse thing in perspective by saying that the thief only got the horse because he was not looking at the halter. Lord Rochester didn’t want to hear anything about the thief so he focused on what the thief did wrong, not what he did right.
