In the year 2007, the Agni KIAMMRADEO- a firework show in rural Sri Lanka′, exploded. In an instant, the lives of thousands were changed. In one moment, thousands lost everything they owned and tens of thousands lost nearly everyone they loved. Trying to find a meaning to this quote that would help us in modern times, we found a story in a book by Sri Lankan author Anjana Ariyasingha. A young boy was in his village when the firework show came.

Many of his family and friends were at the show and all were killed by the explosion. Throughout this essay we will be discussing this story and how it relates to the quote. This is not the first time that Sri Lankans have experienced such disasters like this one though it is one of the most devastating tragedies that we have ever experienced. The recent tsunami disaster in 2004 is another example of what we mean when we say disaster can strike any time and anywhere.

The quote describes this tragedy and how it affected him and many others and how he survived despite this traumatic event happening within months of him starting an entirely new life there.
