About This Quote
Instinct is the automatic, unconscious process that rules how we think, behave, and feel. We can’t turn it off. However, our instincts are often wrong. Instinct has trouble with variables that are unknown or partly unknown or changing in unpredictable ways.
For instance, when it comes to making decisions, sometimes our instincts are right and sometimes they are wrong. Opinion polls show that people vote their hearts rather than their heads when confronted with the choice of who to vote for. Probably because they base their decision on whom they “like” rather than on who they think will do a good job.
There is nothing wrong with instinctive voting if you like your candidate and you think he or she will do a good job. But if your gut tells you someone else is the better choice, you may be better off listening to your head and voting for him or her instead.
