To live a fantasy is to avoid a life. I can't think of a better way to explain the meaning of this quote. Fantasy is something that you can do in your mind and then put on a shelf forever. Fantasy does not have to be a truth of the world.
It just means that it is something that doesn't have reality. It is something that you can create but it doesn't have to be real. It is based on your imagination and it can be anything from a perfect family to a perfect night with your lover.
The problem is that fantasy doesn't give us the real world, so we try to move too quickly from fantasy into reality because the real world isn't going to give us what we want. If we can move from thing into action, thing into reality, then we won't waste our lives doing things that aren't going to make us happy or give us what we want.
