I play until my fingers are blue and stiff from the cold, and then I keep on playing. Until I'm lost in the music. Until I am the music--notes and chords, the melody and harmony. It hurts, but it's okay because when I'm the music, I'm not me. Not sad. Not afraid. Not desperate. Not guilty. Jennifer Donnelly
About This Quote

This is a somewhat rare quote from a very famous musician, Eric Clapton. Clapton has said this quote before but I think it's the first time I've heard it from him. It is generally thought that Clapton came up with this quote from his music. Clapton has been quoted as saying "I play until my fingers are blue and stiff from the cold, and then I keep on playing." Early in his career he was known for playing his Gibson guitar to exhaustion, but would keep on playing because he enjoyed it so much.

He said that he would break a string and then never bother to change it out because he enjoyed the pain of playing so much. If you have ever seen Clapton perform live, you can see that he still suffers from these injuries as he performs all over the world for thousands of people.
