Do not allow yourself to be pulled into the role of embracing victimship as some sort of badge of honor to wear or flash around at any opportunity.

About This Quote

Do not allow yourself to be pulled into the role of embracing victimship as some sort of badge of honor to wear or flash around at any opportunity. Our society has accepted that everyone is a victim. Even those people who have done wrong should be viewed as victims. That idea has infected our society and we can see it in our movies and TV shows.

It started as a way to encourage people to help those who could not help themselves, but then it began to describe those who were not victims at all. The issue with this mentality is that we do not see the difference. Victims are people who have been hurt and need help because they cannot help themselves.

Those who have done wrong and yet should still be treated as a victim are those who simply did wrong and yet feel bad about it.
