You have no obligations to your former self, they are dumber than you and they don’t exist.

About This Quote

When you are in a relationship, it is easy to have obligations towards your partner. If they are being rude, you should correct the behavior. If they are lazy or taking too long to get ready, you should tell them that they look bad. Or maybe you won’t mind if they are late for once, just as long as they don’t do it too often.

When you are no longer committed to the relationship, though, suddenly those obligations go away. You don’t have to worry about embarrassing your partner or giving them a hard time anymore. All of those things are no longer important because you are no longer involved with them.

So what are you left with? Nothing. Finding someone new isn’t nearly as hard as breaking up with someone else because once that relationship is over it’s over for good. That doesn’t mean that you can ignore your former partners, though.

You can still continue to be friends with them and continue to see each other socially but there is no obligation nor expectation that anything more will happen between you two.
