I grew up once, I decided never to do it again. This is a humorous little saying that was made popular by the television show The Simpsons. In the show’s plot, Homer Simpson is a very poor man who used to work as a janitor. He gained a lot of money after he won the lottery and his life certainly changed for the better.
However, one thing remained the same; he was still poor and still had no real skills or talents to speak of. The episode begins with Homer lamenting that he missed out on his childhood by growing up and becoming a failure like his father. The family then goes on vacation and Homer discovers he has become a child again because he does all the things he did as a child.
When they return home, Homer’s life improves drastically and everything seems to be going right for him again. As we know, however, this is an illusion and all of his joy and happiness turns out to be fleeting because soon after he finds himself back at square one as poor as ever before.
