While traveling, I saw a small child sitting alone crying on a bench. The mother was looking for her and had already walked away. I asked the child what happened and she replied, “My father left me and now my mother is gone too.” She had been together with her parents for three months. Her mother had been struggling with cancer and died.
Her father decided to take care of his son and daughter all by himself. When they were alone, he would cry and they would be sad. A few days later, their mother had passed away.
This was not the first time the girl had lost her mom or dad; she had already lost both of them once before when she was two years old. As a result, she was very sad and cried all the time. I asked her how old she was. When she replied that she was four, I told her that sometimes we have to accept that things will change in life, but that it is important to remember those who supported us through those times: our family and friends.
After a long day of travel, we arrived at our hotel and went to sleep early so we could wake up early the next morning for our flight back home. The next day we got up at six o’clock in the morning so we could catch our flight out of town at eight o’clock in the morning. In fact, we were quite happy because this would give us plenty of time left after our trip to enjoy some more sightseeing before going home again from Austria to the United States of America. However, as soon as we sat down in our seats on board the plane, my sister told me that she was only going to see me off from the airport because she did not want me to leave anymore than my father wanted me to leave my little sister behind.
It was too painful for both of them not being together anymore – something nobody wanted – but they knew it had to be this way for both of them because they love each other more than anything else in this world – more than their own lives even! My sister said that it didn’t matter what happens from now on because what mattered most is that they will always have each other whenever they both needed help or just felt like sharing some loving words or some loving hugs or some encouraging words or some words of love or any special words at all because they would never ever forget each other no matter how far apart they might be from one another –
