                The meaning of this quote is that we don’t know what we can do and we just do it. We don’t think about the consequences, we just do what we feel like doing even if its wrong. For example, the character in the book gets an idea to kill his wife and child and throws himself off a cliff. After he has done it he realizes that he might have killed his family and now they are dead. He now has to live with the guilt and pain for rest of his life.
