The book, The Giver, is a good example of the way society is at the time, and how people try to change it. In the book, which takes place in a dystopian future where people are genetically engineered to be perfect workers and essentially never need to grow or learn new things, society has become obsessed with finding and keeping the "perfect" people. The "perfect" person is one who does not feel pain, but instead can be manipulated and controlled by others. The "perfect" person is one who will do what you want him to do without question.

This book makes it clear that these people are truly evil. And if you think about it, it's sad how many times we let this happen in our society today. People are willing to do whatever they have to in order to get ahead, even if it means hurting other people.
