He who is more mindful of one, loses the love and the faith of both.

About This Quote

In his book "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari", Anthony De Mello tells a story of a monk who was dying of cancer. Even though he was dying, he continued to work on his beloved monastery. He worked hard and long, every day. The particular particular reason for this was to make a monument for his monastery years later to prove to his children that he had been faithful and that they should continue the work.

The man died and the project was finished, but the children were not happy with the result. They felt that he had wasted too much time on such a small project and they never respected him as a monk again. If only he had been mindful of both people, he would have been able to balance out both sides and build a monument that would be treasured by both sides.
