God and government can work together

About This Quote

The first page of the United States Constitution says, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” The founders knew that if government was too powerful then it could do harm. They also knew that if government was too weak it would not be able to protect its people against tyranny. So they created a system that protected both. Everyday we hear about how government is needed to protect us from terrorism or keep us safe from criminals. This is not true.

History has shown us that government has done more harm than good. We have seen that governments can be corrupt, they can become tyrannical and they can do things that are not in the best interests of their people. However, this does not mean that all governments are bad or that you should not trust government to do certain things.

The founders knew that they needed government to provide things like roads and bridges and law enforcement but they did not want it to take too much power away from the people or become too oppressive. Today we still need government to protect us against criminals but we also need government for many other things as well. Government needs to be there for education and healthcare and infrastructure maintenance and military protection among others. We need our government to provide these services but we also need our government to be involved in politics because politics is what affects these services. Government is good; it is necessary; but it can only do what it is supposed to do with your support.
