...is any history really all that ancient?... Doesn't every moment from the past affect the present?

Margaret Peterson Haddix
About This Quote

Often, when we talk about the past, we tend to think of it as something that happened so long ago that it is no longer relevant. We feel that the past, therefore, has no influence on the present. To some extent this is true, but not entirely. The past can still affect our present.

If someone in the present were to go back in time and tell their younger selves to do something unpleasant, they would certainly find themselves in unpleasant consequences. Therefore, the past can still affect our current lives.
