He could sense in her the same spirit that ran in his veins. They were people with independent minds. They were not clerks at desks. They preferred to act. Accomplish something. They were rushing to reach the end. Such people need to be left alone. They are used to the darkness, the silence, the waiting. They belong to the same family. That of leopards. Mahendra Jakhar
About This Quote

I have recently read a book called "The Leopard" by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. The book centers around the life of Don Fabrizio, a powerful son of an aristocratic family who is forced by his father to marry the daughter of a local preacher. Don Fabrizio’s choice to take the bride was not an easy one. Not only did he have to break off his relationship with his girlfriend, but he also had to leave the fiancé he had married in childhood.

Don Fabrizio married his childhood sweetheart despite the objections of his parents, and began living in her home village surrounded by friends who were also members of the aristocracy. His yearning for freedom led him to travel to many places in Sicily and later on to Naples where he became involved in all sorts of illegal businesses. He met many people, some good and some bad. He met people like Pilar, who was forced into prostitution at age 15, and Bassanio, who was obsessed with wealth and wealth alone.

And then there was Calozza, a smuggler who helped Don Fabrizio obtain everything he wanted while giving him what he wanted in return: freedom. Don Fabrizio returned to Sicily where he entered politics and eventually became Prime Minister. As Prime Minister, he put an end to corruption amongst politicians and other influential men around the world. His life was full of adventures where he helped other people reach their goals while making his own goals reachable for himself. I found this quote so interesting because it shows that no matter how hard you try to do something you will not succeed overnight; it takes time.

This quote also shows that it’s okay if you want something badly enough that you simply give up on it until you finally reach your goal or until someone helps you reach it on your own terms.
