Though the words “the burden of history” are seldom free from a certain amount of ambiguity, I think they apply here. I think it is great to look back and see how far we've come, but I also think it's extremely heavy to bear. It's heavy because we have to keep looking back and remembering what happened before us, and that it happened before us, and that we remember it. And then we have to keep moving forward and doing our best with what we have now, and what we know now, and what we're sure about now.
