To be naive is to be unaware of how stupid and cruel other people are; but, by some definitions, ignorance is nearly the opposite of naivety in being a kind of cynicism, in being unaware of their intelligence and humanity. It seems to be a normal although unfortunate case that the great many of us consciously abhor ignorance in others yet subconsciously practice it ourselves: as naivety is apparent and well-known to inflict its damage upon oneself; whereas the alternative and the easier, ignorance, its damage upon others. About This Quote

When you are naive it means that you are unaware of how stupid and cruel other people are. Ignorance is often the cause of naivety. When you are ignorant you are unaware of other’s intelligence and humanity. It is easy to see when you are ignorant because you can be hurt by people who do not know the truth about your situation.

The alternative to ignorance is wisdom, which is an awareness of others’ intelligence and humanity. Wisdom always leads to knowledge which leads to understanding. As long as we hold ignorance in our hearts we will never know what we can do for others or for ourselves.
