Born in 1901, Zofia Kossak-Szczucka was a Polish sociologist, historian of ideas, and essayist. Her first book, "Frühzeitliche Denkmaler aus dem zweiten Viertel des 13. Jahrhunderts" (Early Medieval Monuments from the Second Quarter of the Thirteenth Century), appeared in 1920. She published numerous articles on history and politics in various Polish publications
In 1940, the Nazis annexed her native Poland and she became a political refugee in France. She lived there until the end of World War II. After the war, she moved to England where she remained until her death in 1976.
