Wace was the first writer to make the Canterbury Tales available in Middle English. He was also an accomplished poet, whose works include "The Castle of Fortunes." Wace wrote this work at the request of William Caxton, who commissioned him to translate Caxton's edition of the Roman de la Rose. The Canterbury Tales were written by Geoffrey Chaucer between 1387 and 1400. They are perhaps the best-known work of Middle English literature, and are considered one of the most important works in all of English literature.
