Born in Russia, 1894; died in Moscow, 1966. Shklovsky was a Russian literary critic and theorist. He edited a magazine of literature and art, founded a society of artists, and participated in the artistic life of Moscow. He was also a member of the physico-chemical society. Shklovsky wrote The Dialectics of the Flesh (1917), an early example of psychoanalytic criticism, and On the Register (1924), which deals with various aspects of verbal art
