The first Russian language school for foreign students was opened on May 29, 1921 by Heorhiy Narbut (1885-1940) and Ivan Iampol's (1875-1957), under the name 'Heorhiy Narbut's Russian Language School for Foreign Students' ('Narbutovo russkoyazychnoye srednemuje'). In 1931 it was renamed as 'Narbut's Russian Language School'. In 1931 Narbut started also to teach German as a foreign language.
