Tracy Chevalier was born in the UK in 1972. She spent her childhood in Oxford, but after she was married she moved to North Carolina with her husband and their three children where she writes full-time. Her novels include Girl with a Pearl Earring (Marian Keyes described it as "an astonishing explosion of beautiful writing"), Lucia (which won the Costa First Novel Award), The Girl who Played Go (a biography of the game's greatest female player), and Girl of Winter (shortlisted for the Orange Prize). She is also the author of two nonfiction books: The Last Resort, an account of her relationship with her father; and A Brief History of Loneliness, which examined the history of loneliness.
