Mr. Clark participated in two major battles with Spain in Cuba, Santiago and Las Guasimas, and since these were his first military actions, he was quickly promoted to the rank of major. Following his service to the United States Army, Mr.

Clark resumed his career as an engineer until retiring in 1890. He then turned his attention to writing and published two books on engineering subjects: "The Practical Engineer" (1891) and "A Brief History of Modern Engineering" (1898). From 1895 until 1898 he served as Secretary-Treasurer for the American Society of Civil Engineers in New York City.

Mr. Clark died on November 28, 1920 in New York City.
