The Kinks are an English rock band formed in 1963 by lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Ray Davies. Their music is rooted in the British Invasion of the 1960s and their sound draws from various styles including pop, rock, rhythm and blues, and jazz. The band rose to prominence in the United Kingdom with their first two albums, and although never quite achieving the same level of acclaim in America, they enjoyed a string of hit singles and albums there throughout the 1960s.
