The band was formed in the summer of 1990 when they were in high school. The original members of this band were Shane Garrett (vocals), Mark Holcomb (guitar), Cody Holcomb (guitar), Derek Holcomb (bass) and David Tyler Holcomb (drums). They began performing in local churches, youth events, and coffee houses across the west coast of the U.S.

During this time, they toured with several bands before landing a full-time gig with Toby Mac's "TobyMac" in January 1996. The band released their first independent album, "The Calling", on November 23, 1997. It debuted on No. 99 on the Billboard charts and has sold thousands of copies around the world.

They performed at Creation Festival 2000 with Skillet, Hawk Nelson & Mat Kearney. On February 5th 2000 they performed at the Cornerstone Festival 2000 alongside Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch & Mat Kearney. In 2001 they performed at Cornerstone Festival with Halestorm while their second full-length album was being recorded in October 2002 during the fall while touring throughout the US with Skillet.

On January 20th 2004 they went to work on their 3rd studio album while touring throughout the US with Skillet over the summer of 2004 along with "Shane Garrett Band" which featured former Theory of a Deadman drummer Chad Hanks. They released their third studio album called "Reckless & Relentless" on January 4th 2005 which had some success around the Pacific Northwest including making it to No. 80 on the Billboard charts during that summer while touring California and Arizona for another summer tour with Skillet along with former dc Talk drummer Jayce Fincher and current dc Talk member Michael Tait..
