Sylvia Massara is an award winning novelist, playwright, and poet. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Italian parents. She grew up in the Bronx and attended Hunter College where she earned her BFA. Her first novel, "The Third House", was published by St
Martin's Press in 2000. It was followed by "Not Without You" (St. Martin's Press) in 2002 and "The Watering Hole" (St.
Martin's Press) in 2004. Her short stories have appeared in periodicals such as Glimmer Train, The Missouri Review, and The New Yorker among others. Her play "Looking for Me" won the North Carolina Playwrights Conference Award for Best Play in 1999.
Other plays include "Lovers' Lane" (Staged Reading at the Atlantic Theater Company), "The Third House" (Manhattan Repertory), and "Fantasy for Two" (Manhattan Rep). Ms. Massara has taught creative writing at Hunter College and at the New School for Social Research."
