Born in 1969 in Oxford, England, Steve Coogan began to appear in small roles in British television and at 18 he was the lead in a BBC comedy titled "Young Adam," which he also wrote and starred in. The series ran for one season and became a cult hit. Following its cancellation, Coogan went on to perform with such theater groups as The Comedy Store Players and The Footlights; appeared in big-screen productions such as "The Parole Officer" (1986) and "Foul Play" (1988); and made appearances on British television shows like "The Comic Strip Presents..." and "The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer." He made his film debut with a small part in the 1993 film "Mr. Bean's Holiday," which also gave him work as a writer and director on the 1995 sketch comedy show "The Steve Coogan Show." He followed this up with roles in other popular films such as the Oscar-nominated "Philomena" (2013), which earned him Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor, and "Saving Mr. Banks" (2013), which earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. As an actor, Coogan has also won two BAFTA awards: Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Alan Partridge in 2004's "The Alan Partridge Diaries," which also won Best Comedy Film, and Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Kevin Turvey in 2014's "The Trip to Italy."
