Stephen R.C. Hicks is a writer and teacher. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Rutgers University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. He returned to the University of Maryland as a graduate student, completing his M.A
in Communications in 1974. His professional writing career began in the early 1970s as a staff writer for the Baltimore Sun newspaper. In 1971, he became a regular columnist for the Washington Post, where he stayed until 1997.
