Solas was born in the mountains of rural Quebec. He graduated from Université du Québec à Montréal with a degree in philosophy. Since then he's been a full-time freelance writer, editor and translator. He holds a PhD from the University of Montreal and has taught French literature at Concordia University
His first novel, Le Dernier des maudits ("The last of the damned") was published by Québec Amérique/Héritage in 2003. His second book, La fureur du tonnerre ("The fury of thunder") was published by Folio/Québec Amérique in 2005. He's currently working on his third novel, La furie des vents ("The fury of the winds").
