Sir James Hall was the first Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Service and the first Chief Constable of the City of London Police. He died in 1839 and is now buried beneath Mansion House in East London. He was succeeded as Chief of the Metropolitan Police by Sir Charles Rowan. Hall was involved in a number of controversies during his career, including his appointment as Chief Constable of the City of London Police
