Simon Mashalla is a South African writer, activist and educator. Born in Cape Town on the 18th of May 1977, he went to school in Johannesburg and later went to study at the University of Cape Town where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. He later studied for a Masters degree in Applied Psychology at the University of Port Elizabeth and has been teaching English and Creative Writing for over 11 years. He is the author of several award-winning books, including his autobiographical account of his time in prison, My Time In Prison: A Memoir (2013) and the crime novel The Boy's Story (2013).
