Shaky Kane is a self-taught artist who often illustrates his own books. He has illustrated the works of authors such as Bonnie Bryant, D.M.H. Kincaid, and Jason Shiga. The first book he illustrated was a collection of short stories by Jason Shiga titled The Hard Night of the Living Dead
