Sam Savage is the Chief Executive Officer of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, a non-profit dedicated to improving the nation's education system. He was appointed by Secretary Duncan to serve as executive director of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills in May 2012. As president and CEO of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Sam works with Secretary Duncan on initiatives that improve education for all students. He previously served as chief operating officer at the Georgia Department of Education (GeorgiaDOE), where he was responsible for developing and implementing GeorgiaDOE’s education strategy, building out GeorgiaDOE’s management team, and leading GeorgiaDOE’s administrative operations. Prior to joining GeorgiaDOE, Sam served as vice president of business development at Georgia Public Broadcasting from 2004 until 2006. From 2000 until 2004, Sam held a number of senior leadership roles at the United Negro College Fund/The National Fraternal Demonstration Project.
From 1996 until 2000, Sam worked as a special assistant to President Clinton and as staff secretary to Vice President Al Gore. From 1994 until 1996, he worked as a consultant to The White House Task Force on National Health Care Reform under then-Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala. In 1992, Sam began his career working in public affairs at The Coca-Cola Company, where he led day-to-day government affairs efforts across the country.
While there, he developed several successful partnerships with corporations including UPS and J&J Pharmaceuticals for community health projects in high-risk communities across America. Sam earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1988 and a master's degree from Columbia University's School of International Public Affairs in 1991.
