Rupertus Meldenius (1493–1573) was a German jurist and theologian. He is best known for his historical essays, many of which are about the foundation of institutions of higher education. In 1509 he became a member of the magistracy at Fulda, and two years later he became official historiographer for the chapter at Bamberg. In 1512 he lectured on Roman history in Wittenberg, and in 1513 he became professor of civil law at Leipzig. In recognition of his scholarly abilities, Pope Leo X made him a canon of Salzburg Cathedral in 1518, and later a canon at Wittenberg.

In 1520 he became rector at Wittenberg and in 1524 was named provost there. In 1526 he resigned from his post as rector and left Wittenberg to assume the post of historiographer for Bamberg Cathedral. After completing his work there on October 31, 1529, he returned to Wittenberg where he spent the next five years on various ecclesiastical offices.

He died on April 20, 1573 in Wittenberg.
