Roy Chapman Andrews was a renowned American paleontologist and explorer, who helped found the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He was also a major proponent of the creation of a national park system in the United States. For his work on prehistoric life, he shared a Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction with William J. H
Gregory. In 1937, he was named an Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor by the French government. In 1948, he received a Gold Medal from the National Geographic Society, and in 1949, he became an honorary member of the British Royal Society.
