Roberto Goizueta was the fifth president of Coca-Cola. He was named president of the company in 1981, only two months after leaving his post as vice president of Coca-Cola Enterprises. The son of the company's founder, he helped to bring the soft drink into the modern era. He was succeeded by Douglas Ivester in 1985
A native of Puerto Rico, Goizueta earned his bachelor's degree at Universidad Interamericana and his master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. He served with the U.S. Army in France during World War II and was decorated with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He joined Coca-Cola in 1947 and eventually held more than thirty management positions with the company, including chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises, where he oversaw operations in more than forty countries. He retired from Coca-Cola in 1989 at age seventy-five.
