His first published work was a short story called "The Man Who Cried Green" which appeared in the July 1987 issue of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. It won an award for Best Short Story from the Crime Writers of America. Jordan's first novel, The Eye of the World, was published by Tor Books in 1990.

He currently lives in western Massachusetts with his wife Barbara, son Matthew, daughter Madeleine, and black Lab, Maggie Mae.
